LADIES AND
GENTLEMEN,RELATIVES OF THE FALLEN AND MISSING HEROES OF THE CYPRIOT
TRAGEDY 1974
Thirty five years were supplemented since the black summer
of Turkish invasion in Cyprus 1974 witch apart from the
disastrous effects that it brought in the Cypriot
Hellenism,it sunk in sorrow, bereavement and distress
hundreds of families in Greece.83 of them, are the families of
militants of Greek Army that were in Cyprus in official or
undeclared service and due the Turkish attrocities they are
now missing.
Thirty five years are too much to bear.The rythm
international changes are occuring and at the same time the
stagnation that distinguishes our subject, with our people
buried in the indifference and insincerity,are the elements
that make our everyday routine
gloomy.Unfortunately,Greece,our Homeland,35 years afterwards
continues to owe them the recognition of their Heroism and
History their own capital of glory.Because the bravery and
their self-sacrifice did not fall short of that of our
ancestors such as Leonidas and the three hundred Spartans,
Papaflessas of the Maniaki and the epic of 1940.Due to the
Turkish intolerance and the tolerance of International
organisms and United Nations.The problem remains
unresolved,enormous and complicated.
Turkey continues without sanctions for her hundreds crimes
to play political games without giving answers for the
persons that were lost due its Invasion in Cyprus during
summertime of 1974.WE,their relatives,remain beggers of some
information and we have experienced all the distresses and
the unfairnesses, that it can experience a person and in
particular a EUROPEAN citizen.
In addition,something that had a bad impact on our issue is
an opinion,a GENERAL AND VAGUE CONCLUSION that the Turkish
side but also the United Nations had spread that all are
dead,without considering the International legality.Plus,in
Greece we,their families are still teated as VICTIMS of
Second World War!!!
We point out that only few of the Greek Missing persons have
been recognized with the method of DNA.And even for the
soldier Vasilios Smyrlis officially declared from the
International Red Cross as captive of war in Cyprus 74, the
state of Greece preferred SILENCE and did nothing to
claim him from the Turks and has heavy responsibilities for
this.Important also information about the existence of Greek
Militants in prisons in Turkey were disappeared into drawers
of timidity and irresponsibility.
In
our long-lasting fight,we are being treated unfairly. From
the one side they call us relatives of Heroes but from the
other side they do not make even one official action that
could appear as gesture of honor for the fallen
Heroes,something to ease the pain of their parents,spouses
and children.
Our
humanitarian problem REQUIRES good will.It requires light
and truth and respect to Humanism. Those that played and
continue to play with our lives bet on the oblivion that
brings the passage of time in order to distort the reality.
It is said that the time is can heal everything... But for
our families time remains an implacable adversary. Each year
and we remain fewer and most of the missing persons parents
have passed away with bitterly...
In our solitary struggle we had as unique supporter OUR HOPE
and the STRENGTH of our right to Know what our
beloved-ones became,so,we continue despite the
disappointments and the pain, the discomfort of search and
martyrical waiting of some NEWS that are not coming. With
responsibility and awes we say:We Won't tolerate anymore the
big lies and the half truths and the unfairness...
OUR
SOUL is bleading in pain.
"The memories and the pain require pride AND FIGHT.
WE CONTINUE IN THE NAME OF JUSTICE THE SEARCH OF OUR PEOPLE
FOR AS LONG AS WE CAN AND WITH ALL POWER AND RESISTANCE WE
STILL HAVE. "
